Opening: Sunday, October 21st 2:00 to 5:00pm
CMPS presents the first in our series of art exhibitions and screenings.
This show explores the sense of psychic presence in art.
The human figure has been a focus of art from its beginnings. Here,
rather than simply examining the figure itself, we focus attention on the
ways artistic representation evokes familiar aspects of the viewers
own internal life which in turn stimulates their individual response.
These works produce feelings that might be described as disquiet, a
form of anxiety; one senses the presence of something which is absent.
In this sense, the works induce feelings in the viewer that reflect what is
represented by the art and what is brought to the art by the viewer.
Fifteen artists are represented in a variety of media, including painting,
drawing, and photography. The exhibit runs through Nov 30, 2007.
